Make Roll recipe
Filling:
3 tablespoons butter, melted
¾ cup packed brown sugar
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon cloves
1/8 teaspoon salt
Walnuts, chocolate chips or raisins (optional)
Frosting:
3 cups powder sugar
1 stick butter, softened
1-2 teaspoons vanilla
3 Tablespoons milk
1. For the filling: combine the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, cloves, salt, and the 1 tablespoon melted butter together in a medium bowl until the mixture resembles wet sand, set aside.
2. On a floured surface roll out the dough in a 9 by 12-inch rectangle (slightly thinner than the rolls). Brush the dough with 2 Tablespoons of the remaining melted butter. Sprinkle the dough evenly with the filling, leaving a ½ -inch border, and then press it firmly into the dough. For variety add walnuts, chocolate chips, or raisins.
3. Start on the longest side and roll the dough, pressing lightly, to form a tight log. Pinch the seam closed. With a knife or floss cut every 1 ½ or 2 inches. Put each cinnamon roll on a cookie sheet that has been brushed with melted butter. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise 15-30 minutes. Remove wrap and bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes or until light brown.
4. For Frosting: cream powder sugar and butter together. Add vanilla. Add milk one Tablespoon at a time until desired consistency. Spread frosting on top of rolls.
